Of the many things I don’t get about Mike Huckabee et al, the biggest one is that they can’t see the lay of the land. They act like if they fight hard enough, this is never going to happen. OF COURSE it’s going to happen, because it’s the right thing. And truthfully, I think they know it. Which makes it all the more maddening that they’re spending so much money and energy delaying the inevitable. The inevitable that seems so very clear in our constitution. Good grief. Let’s get this show on the road.

Did I ever mention that I’m not a particularly patient person?

It’s amazing to me how smart Jon Stewart is on the fly. Jen and I were watching this the other day, and it’s just impressive how lets The Huck walk into the logical trap of “When did you decide to be straight?” and picks apart the argument that we haven’t been redefining marriage for the last 5,000 years. I take some comfort in my belief that, despite all these amendments banning gay marriage, our side is winning the culture war (simply be attrition), and that these are the last dying gasps of a generation that can’t stand the sight of two men kissing. It’s not about preserving the human race or some other ridiculous argument. It’s about the “ick” factor for them. And in time, as they die off, it will become apparent that they’ve already lost this fight. But it does make me sad, even as a true-blue liberal, that gay people have essentially been asked to take one for the team and be patient by Obama supporters because there are “bigger” issues in play.

There are bigger issues in play if you’re straight, I suppose. Or if you don’t know any gay people. But not if you’re the one having your rights stripped away.
